MACtac U.K. held its Awards dinner at Sedgebrook Hall on Friday 19th September in recognition of the U.K. winners of the 2008 competition.

Beverly Ridings, Marketing Manager of MACtac U.K. warmly welcomed all the winners and guests on behalf of her colleagues. Beverly congratulated the winners and, again, in this year’s competition the U.K. had “produced” an overall EUROPEAN WINNER. This is the fourth time in a row that U.K. has had a European Winner – which goes to show the high level of talent we have.

The guests included representatives from MACtac U.K. Distributors and representatives from the sign and digital trade press.

Max Linder, Marketing Director, MACtac Europe presented the U.K. winning applications – European Winner, National 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners, and those deemed by the jury as “highly commended” judged on the high quality of entry. Max also showed examples of other winning application across Europe.

Roger Hinchliffe from SIGN UPDATE and a competition judge was invited to say a few words and in his inimitable style Roger made us laugh! Roger went on to say that the judging session was made up of experts in the sign & digital arena from all over Europe and it was a very difficult task not only to choose winners from the high level of entries in terms of quality and innovation, but also because of cultural differences between the judges who had different “favourites”!

Chris Martin, Country Manager, MACtac U.K. was delighted to present the European Winner with their stunning trophy and all winners and highly commended entries with their framed certificates.

With the formal side of the evening over – everyone enjoyed a jolly good meal and retired to the bar afterwards in the relaxed surroundings of Sedgebrook Hall.

Giant Ampersand

The astonishing colours and visuals of their giant ampersand sculpture were designed to decorate the space between two roundabouts approaching Blue Water Shopping Centre. Children’s Library
Judy worked with 90 children from 3 local primary schools to design a unique decoration illustrating Roald Dahl brooks at a Children’s Library in the Cardiff area. Their designs were brought to life using MACal 8400 transparent colours and applied to windows, allowing natural sunlight to add a magical atmosphere. MACtac Distributor: ANDERSONS

Eddie Stobbart Train
Eddie Stobbart launched the first full liveried dedicated freight train in the U.K. featuring graphics applied on the locomotive and on 90 container carriages. MACtac Product: JT5529MBF, LF3399.

102M decoration made from designs produced by 8 year olds. The design brief was to attempt to disguise the garage which houses the landtrain on Boscombe seafront and make it more in keeping with the area and the beach hut imagery certainly blends in well with the rest of the promenade. Printed visual presented behind a set of semi-transparent stripes. The idea of the design was to find a point at which from a distance the stripes would be the most visible and as you get closer the details of the image would become more visible and if you get too close – the face says it all – back off!!! Manchester Snow Dome


A 12 week installation of this 3,500 sqm graphic featuring an Alpine Scene for a year-round indoor snow and ski slope (the longest and widest in Europe). The installation had to be made without drilling into the walls – special cherry pickers were used for the first 6 weeks but once the tin floor was laid these were too heavy and a crak abseiling team was used to complete the installation!
